What is Six Sigma?
Six
Sigma is a managment
philosophy that uses proven tools and methods to continually
improve processes, products and services.
It is not a
business strategy but an enabler to meet business strategy.
The key elements of
our Six Sigma program are:
1. Delighting our
critical internal and external customers and partners
2. Maintaining focus
on our business objectives,
3. Committing to use
data to drive strategic decisions.
4. Following the three
structured methodologies as listed in the following page

A. Process Manangement
When
performance on any process fails to meet requirements, or when
new requirements or opportunities are identified, the DMAIC or
DFSS methodologies are used to improve the performance.
Once
performance is improved, process management helps to sustain the
improvement.
B. DMAIC Method
Improves
existing processes, products and services that are not
performing to customer, partner or business needs.
The five
DMAIC steps provide a systematic methodology, tools and
techniques:
I.
Define the opportunity and set expectations
II.
Measure the defect and establish goals
III.
Analyze the data and confirm root causes
IV.
Improve the process and eliminate root causes
V.
Control the gains and share lessons
B. DFSS Method
Design
For Six Sigma involves either making radical improvements to
existing processes, products or services, or creating new
processes to meet customer, partner, or business needs.
DFSS
provides a systematic methodology, tools and techniques that
ensure customer requirements drive the design to meet the
required performance level.
